Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular artists who represented Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. He is the face of Colorado for many people across the globe. In all my travels I have met many individuals who do not hail from Colorado. They'll say, "Oh John Denver!" whenever they learn that you're from Colorado. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads is the only Denver Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist after working in small Folk Music Groups. The track was written by Bill Danoff. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver realized that it could be a huge hit after the song was first heard by him. Just a few days after singing to an enthusiastic crowd in Washington D.C., the artist recorded the song.
